Miscellaneous

Here is the archive of miscellaneous Solid Edge training videos covering many different aspects of the product

Adjustable Assemblies

A common requirement in machine design is the need to simulate the movement of a mechanism. This is something that Solid Edge has been able to achieve in various ways for a long time. One issue that can affect this is when the design contains systems that need to adjust such as a hydraulic cylinder. Solid Edge can overcome this by defining the system as an adjustable assembly. This also has the added benefit of creating a correct bill of materials when more than one unique instance of a moving sub assembly is contained within a design. This training session will focus on how to create and use adjustable assemblies.

The above is a short overview of the Solid Edge tutorial Adjustable Assemblies.

Adjustable Parts

Adjustable parts are useful for any part model that changes shape or size in some manner when it is assembled. Common examples of adjustable parts include items such as ribbon cables, ‘o’ rings, rubber gaiters and springs. The Adjustable Part functionality in Solid Edge allows the same part to be placed multiple times on any design whilst each time using the assembly to control the adjustable parameters in the part. This Solid Edge video tutorial will focus on creating and using Adjustable Parts in an assembly.

Feature Library

If you have ever found yourself re-generating similar features over and over again from scratch then the Feature Library functionality in Solid Edge is invaluable. The re-use of existing data and the ability to drag and drop standard features from your own custom library is a great way of saving valuable design time. The good news is that it’s easy to populate your feature library as you’ll find out in this training session. This Solid Edge video tutorial will focus on how to use the Feature Library functionality in Solid Edge

System Library

With Solid Edge’s unique Systems Design capabilities, you can focus not only on how parts fit together, but also how components function and interact. Systems Libraries allow you to define and store sets of parts, features and constraints for re-use as a fully functional system in future projects. Critical relationships are captured and re-used, material is automatically added or removed from related components to ensure correct placement, moving parts maintain their pre-defined paths and loads, while sensors monitor critical distances and other variables that will affect the desired performance of the system. This Solid Edge video tutorial will discuss how to create and use System Libraries in Solid Edge.

Fastener System

The Fastener System command in Solid Edge is an intelligent and powerful utility which makes it very efficient to place fasteners such as nuts, bolts and washers into an assembly. The appropriate sized fastener components are automatically determined based on selections that are made in the assembly. The Fastener System command takes full advantage of the Machinery Library that is included with Solid Edge Classic. This Solid Edge video tutorial focuses on how to use the Fastener System in Solid Edge.

Feature Recognition

The Solid Edge Feature Recognizer is a powerful solution that converts imported 3D CAD data into intelligent, parametric feature-based solid models. The benefits of this process are that imported CAD data is instantly more valuable and usable since the imported data may be altered very quickly by using Solid Edge’s streamlined feature based modelling tools. This Solid Edge video tutorial will walk you through the process of recognising features on an imported model.

Direct Editing

Direct Editing helps simplify the design of complex models and streamline interoperability with imported 3D geometry. By introducing Direct Editing Solid Edge took a huge leap forward in the mainstream CAD market by becoming the only product to offer the ability to modify 3D model data without the need to edit the history tree. Direct Editing allows the editing of native complex parametric models without the need to retrace steps in the history tree. Direct Editing also allows the editing of imported 3D geometry from any source without the need to import features and parameters. This Solid Edge video tutorial will focus on the Direct Editing tools available and how to use them on native and imported part and sheet metal models.

Femap Express

Market pressures to reduce design cycle time, increase speed to market and improve quality are all driving growth in the use of digital simulation tools throughout the product lifecycle. These tools allow designers to perform first pass analysis and validate that parts are fit for purpose whilst keeping costs low. Also ensuring that designs are strong enough means that costly recalls can be avoided. This Solid Edge video tutorial will focus on the Femap Express tools that are integrated within the Solid Edge design environment and how they can be used to run digital simulation on part models.
